Dursley Country Fair - 13 July
Return to home page

The Dursley Country Fair, formerly the Rural Festival has now been combined with the Dursley Town Festival and will be held on Sunday 13 July. Last year was the first year that Vale Vision organised the Rural Festival and people turned out in dreadful weather to support the event which was a celebration of the launch of the Cotswold Way as a National Trail. In spite of this, those who attended enjoyed the event and we have been asked if we would be repeating it this year.

With organising the Country Fair for the end of the Dursley Festival week, we cannot guarantee the weather but hope that it will be a little warmer in the evening for 'The Big Quiz'. Last year 12 teams turned out on a bitterly cold, wet and windy evening to enjoy questions on general as well as local knowledge presented by our excellent quizmaster, Jane Ball who will be organising the quiz again this year.

As well as 'The Big Quiz' in the evening, this year's events will include a farmer's market together with craft and heritage skills. The Vale Vision walking group are currently planning walks, including two areas which Vale Vision is currently working on, the route for the 'Dursley Sculpture and Play Trail in Twinberrow woods and the plans for a nature trail in Breakheart Quarry.

There will be an opportunity to try all sorts of skills. For children there will be clay modelling, pompom sculptures, knitting, photography competition and an opportunity for you to write or draw about the area in which you live. For those who are not quite so young, dog training displays, Nia dance, butter making, cookery demonstrations amongst others. Perhaps you would like to join the Slimbridge Dowsing Group in investigating the location of the Dursley castle.

Get involved...

We do have some stalls booked but we are looking for more stalls for the farmers market and traditional crafts as well as those who would like to demonstrate their skills or organise workshops. We are especially interested if you would like to do something different such as displays of traditional farming crafts or implements. If you wish to have a stall at the farmer's market, display your craft, organise a workshop or help lead one of the walks, please contact Vale Vision.
